Mesabi Metallics Employees Volunteer in Highway 169 Cleanup

More than 50 Mesabi Metallics employees filled more than 35 bags of trash along Highway 169

[NASHWAUK, MN] – On Wednesday, June 11, more than 50 employees of Mesabi Metallics Company LLC (Mesabi Metallics) came together for the company’s semiannual cleanup along Highway 169 between Nashwauk and Keewatin. This initiative is part of Mesabi Metallics’ ongoing partnership with Minnesota’s Adopt a Highway program, which the company joined in 2023. This spring’s effort follows a cleanup Mesabi Metallics held last fall along the stretch of highway.

“At Mesabi Metallics, we are passionate about our communities and the environment, and we put that into action,” said Joe Broking, President & CEO of Mesabi Metallics. “We are proud to be part of Minnesota’s Adopt a Highway program, and this spring we had more than 50 team members working together to meet our obligation. Our team’s work to clean up trash along the highway isn’t just about beautifying our communities—it’s about demonstrating our shared responsibility to the Iron Range and making our region better today than it was yesterday.”

Mesabi Metallics employees collected more than 35 bags of litter during the cleanup, making a visible impact along the roadway. The event reflects Mesabi Metallics’ strong commitment to sustainability and civic responsibility, both in its operations and in its community involvement. As part of its long-term vision, Mesabi Metallics is focused on minimizing its environmental footprint and supporting the Iron Range through educational partnerships, local development initiatives and environmental stewardship.
