The Senator’s visit highlighted the project’s critical role in boosting Minnesota’s economy and strengthening America’s domestic steel supply chain
[NASHWAUK, MN] – Mesabi Metallics Company LLC (Mesabi Metallics), today welcomed U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar to its Nashwauk project site, where she toured the company’s state-of-the-art mine and pellet plant and met with team members helping build the first new iron ore mine in Minnesota in nearly 50 years.
During the visit, Senator Klobuchar received an in-depth look at construction progress across the $2.5 billion facility, which is nearing completion and expected to support hundreds of family-sustaining jobs while strengthening the domestic steel supply chain.
“Projects like Mesabi Metallics are critical to boosting Minnesota’s economy for the long term and to strengthening America’s domestic supply chains,” said Senator Klobuchar. “I was impressed by the level of innovation and cutting-edge technology I saw at Mesabi. I will always fight for the Iron Range—from taking a stand against steel dumping to supporting projects that provide good paying jobs.”

With more than 800 construction workers currently on site and hiring for full-time roles on track to accelerate in the coming months, Mesabi Metallics is preparing for operations as it continues advancing toward construction completion.
