Mesabi Metallics Paints the Iron Range Pink with Breast Cancer Awareness Blast

The company also donated $5,000 to Angel Fund to help Northeastern Minnesota families facing cancer.

[NASHWAUK, MN] – Mesabi Metallics Company LLC (Mesabi Metallics) today recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a ceremonial pink chalk blast at its mine site in Nashwauk, Minnesota, and a $5,000 donation to Angel Fund, a Hibbing-based nonprofit that provides financial assistance to Northeastern Minnesota residents facing all types of cancer.

“The blast lasted only seconds, but the message is powerful: Nobody faces cancer alone,” said Kelly Grinsteinner, Executive Director of Angel Fund. “Thank you, Mesabi Metallics, for believing in Angel Fund’s mission and helping send that message across the Iron Range.”

The chalk blast was attended by local officials, cancer survivors and Angel Fund leadership. It intended to raise awareness of the importance of early detection and to honor those across the Iron Range whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

“The families who live and work on the Iron Range are at the heart of everything we do,” said Joe Broking, President and CEO of Mesabi Metallics. “Angel Fund provides immediate help to our neighbors at one of the most difficult times in their lives, some of which are part of our own Mesabi family. In the past two years alone, we have had at least six Mesabi families impacted by cancer. We are proud to support Angel Fund’s work and to stand with every family in Northeastern Minnesota affected by cancer.”

“Mesabi Metallics continues to show what it means to be a good corporate neighbor on the Range,” said Hibbing Mayor Pete Hyduke. “This donation to Angel Fund will make a meaningful difference for local families.”

Since its founding, Angel Fund has provided $1.2 million in financial assistance to residents of Northeastern Minnesota who are undergoing cancer treatment, helping cover everyday needs such as transportation, groceries and other expenses not covered by insurance. And, all funds raised stay local.

“A cancer diagnosis brings so many unexpected costs, and this gift will have a direct impact on local patients and their families,” said Carolyn Pohjonen, President of Angel Fund. “Every dollar helps ease the financial burden of treatment.”
