Donation covers students, teachers and staff after the district adopted a new clear-bottle requirement
[NASHWAUK, MN] – Mesabi Metallics Company LLC (Mesabi Metallics) has donated 600 clear water bottles to Nashwauk-Keewatin Public Schools, ISD 319, easing the cost for families beginning the new school year.
The district recently implemented a requirement that water bottles brought to school be clear for safety reasons. To help families meet the rule without adding another item to their back-to-school shopping lists, Mesabi Metallics provided bottles for students, teachers and staff across the district.
“When the district made this change for the safety of our kids, the last thing we wanted was for it to become one more expense for families who are already stretched,” said Barb Kalmi, Nashwauk-Keewatin School Board Vice Chair. “Mesabi Metallics stepped up without being asked twice. That’s what it means to be a good neighbor on the Iron Range, and our students and staff are grateful.”
The donation is the latest in Mesabi Metallics’ ongoing support of Iron Range students, which has included bus transportation for area teams and musicians headed to state tournaments and lead sponsorship of the Hibbing/Chisholm girls hockey team in the past.
“Back-to-school season already asks a lot of families,” said Joe Broking, President & CEO of Mesabi Metallics. “Making sure every student and staff member starts the year with what they need is a simple way to support the schools that support our community.”
To date, Mesabi Metallics has donated more than $1.4 million to the Iron Range community, funding more than 50 projects.
