[KEEWATIN, MN] – Mesabi Metallics Company LLC (Mesabi Metallics) this week announced its $25,000 donation to support the renovation of the O’Brien Reservoir Pavilion in Keewatin, Minnesota. The donation helped fund critical improvements, including roof repairs, structural enhancements and concrete work, ensuring the space can continue to serve residents and visitors for years to come. Mesabi Metallics joined representatives from the City of Keewatin, the Blandin Foundation and the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board to celebrate the completion of the project this week.

The O’Brien Reservoir Park is a central hub for recreation in the region. Located between Nashwauk and Keewatin along State Highway 169 and the Mesabi Bike Trail, the park draws families, visitors and outdoor enthusiasts for fishing, picnics and other events. With the completion of the new Nashwauk-Keewatin School nearby, usage of the park is expected to grow even further.

“This space has been a backdrop for countless family reunions, picnics and community events. Now it’s time to invest in its future so the next generation can enjoy it just as much,” said Joe Broking, President & CEO of Mesabi Metallics. “Mesabi Metallics’ contribution toward roof repairs, structural improvements and concrete work is about more than fixing a building — it’s about sustaining a place where people can connect with each other and with the outdoors.”

“O’Brien Reservoir Park has always been a gathering place for our community,” said Keewatin City Council Member Randy Nash. “Mesabi Metallics’ support ensures that families, students and visitors will continue to enjoy this beautiful space for decades to come. We’re grateful for Mesabi’s investment in Keewatin’s future.”

The donation is part of Mesabi Metallics’ broader mission to support community development across the Iron Range. To date, Mesabi Metallics has donated more than $800,000 to the community, funding more than 30 projects.

“We know that when Iron Range communities are strong, Mesabi Metallics is strong,” Broking added. “Mesabi Metallics is committed to being not just an employer, but a community partner. Supporting education, public safety, youth sports and other initiatives is part of how we strengthen the region we all call home.”
